Gavin Nails the Gybe

Persistent practice and commitment pays off

He has been quietly practicing for some time, and while they may not look pretty, at our last session Gavin was nailing his gybes most of the time. Gav says that a big part of it is overcoming your fear, you really have to "man up" and commit to the gybe, there are no half steps here.

The technique is to take your back foot out and gradually apply increasing pressure in-between the front and rear straps on the leeward rail. As the board comes around you dip the sail and as sail comes to the apex of the turn, switch feet positions while moving your forearm to the front of the boom so you can flip the sail hand over hand.

This is my goal for this summer, to nail the gybe...
