What do you do for fun in light winds?
All sorts of strange things happen to the wind in winter. When high pressure systems move over the continent nothing seems to happen - whereas in summer we would have 5 days of 15-20kt winds - the windfinder predictions are seldom accurate in winter. So everyone starts to get a bit edgy, and desperate for something to do on the water - others have simply given up, tired of rigging up, only to be disappointed.
I have resorted to slogging out and riding the swells back in. Its a very low speed but cruisey sensation, and can be fun if the tide is right and the swell is big enough. On this particular day, the wind was teasing me with gusts that felt promising, but just not enough to get planing.
