Easter Mash-up
Easter is one of my favourite times to spend out on the water. It is always mayhem. A large group of fellow windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over Queensland make the pilgrimage each year to camp at Elliott Heads. We all get on really well, so its not only great fun to meet up, but the spectacle on the water is always inspiring. Unfortunately the wind can be fickle over this period. This year a big south-easterly was predicted to come through, so a bunch of guys stayed on to catch it.
If you would like to watch this video in full HD resolution on a big screen, vimeo members (its free to join) can download the original 1080p HD video here.
This was shot using my Sony DSC-HX9V compact camera. I still get amazed by the quality of video this tiny camera is able to produce. The images are sharp and the focus is incredibly quick and tracks well, particularly when their are the bright reflections of sunlight on the sails providing lots of contrast in the picture. This camera is the one with the 16x optical zoom and active digital plus optical image stabalisation, that shoots in full HD 1080 x 50p resolution. It was blowing a gale, so this time I tried something different and shortened the length of my carbon fibre Benro monopod, and shot the images sitting on a rock. I think this has improved the steadiness of the camera quite a bit. The biggest problem was salt spray. I took a lens cleaning cloth with me and had to regularly cleans salt spray off the lens to keep the images from getting foggy and soft. For ths type of work I cannot recommend this camera/monopod combination highly enough.

Simon,
Its my pleasure. I do find these slow motion videos quite interesting to watch because I see snippets of technique here and there to learn from. I have every intention of creating more videos on technique soon, I am just juggling all the other commitments in my life at the moment.

Hi Henry, Great footage, thanks for taking it. We all had a ball once the wind filled in and that just took me back to the day. Magic stuff. PS: Second last photo is Timbo.
