Easter is one of my favourite times to spend out on the water. It is always mayhem. A large group of fellow windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over Queensland make the pilgrimage each year to camp at Elliott Heads. We all get on really well, so its not only great fun to meet up, but the spectacle on the water is always inspiring. Unfortunately the wind can be fickle over this period. This year a big south-easterly was predicted to come through, so a bunch of guys stayed on to catch it.

I actually had a great day. It was my first time out in surf on my Tabou Rocket - sail surfing. The wind started out light, so I would slog out and then have just enough power to plane along the waves. The sets were nice and clean and were very easy to ride in the light winds. Then a front came in and I made the stupid decision to stay out, rather than come back in and change down. Predictably I got pounded. Sadly I didn't get any footage of the fun bit, only the carnage afterwards.

Over Easter I took the kids on a tip out to Lady Elliott Island. This was their first time snorkelling and first visit to the Great Barrier Reef. It turned out to be much better than I remembered from my last trip 14 years ago. We swam with turtles every day. They were waiting for us out at the edge of the coral lagoon. We would simply wave to them and they would swim over for a back scratch. These green sea turtles like a good back scratch because it helps keep their shells clean.
